Do you know the difference between technical hemp and marijuana? What exactly is CBD and what effects does CBD oil and drops have on our body? How and when to take CBD oil? We have also prepared answers to these questions for you in our article.
What is CBD oil?
The abbreviation CBD comes from the word Cannabidiol. It is a non-psychoactive naturally occurring compound in the Cannabis sativa plant, that is, in hemp (technical hemp).
It is the second most widely used cannabinoid for the medical use of cannabis. (1) CBD is found in a concentration of approximately 0.5–2% in the upper third of the plant and parts of the flowers. According to the World Health Organization , CBD does not cause negative psychoactive, narcotic or toxic effects even in larger quantities. (2)
In recent months, various hemp products have also dominated our market – from cbd oils, through various CBD cosmetics, hemp teas, as well as food products or dietary supplements for animals. This is nothing new. Hemp was a common part of the household in the past. (3)
” From hemp thread, people were able to make their own clothes, as well as various home and social textiles. Similarly, a tasty porridge could be prepared from hemp seed. The beginnings of growing this plant date back to the 3rd century. millennia BC, when it was grown primarily in Asia, from there it was also spread to Europe and subsequently to America. The decline of hemp industry was caused by laws that restricted its cultivation for narcotic drugs. Also, hemp has been replaced by cheaper raw materials, such as. cotton. Many incorrectly associate technical hemp with illegal marijuana, containing cannabinoids. However, technical hemp contains only tiny amounts of these substances,” states RNDr. Andrea Lančaričová, PhD. from the National Agricultural and Food Centre for the Science at Your Fingertips portal. At the same time, up to 25,000 products can be produced from hemp.
How is CBD oil created?
CBD oils are also one of the products of our family hemp farm. CBD oil is the result of CBD extraction from the cannabis plant in the form of a thick oily paste. The extraction, production and development of our products takes place in the certified GMP SÚKL laboratory for drug cannabis testing and is one of the few laboratories of this type in Europe. As a result, the optimal concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes in the raw hemp extract is achieved.
Subsequently, the psychotropic substance THC is removed by industrial chromatography. This ensures that our HempBona CBD oils, which are created from our grown hemp sown directly in our HempBona fields in eastern Slovakia , are clean, safe to use and free of THC.
The thick oily paste is then usually mixed with a carrier oil, such as hemp, coconut, or other oils, to form a product with a specific concentration of CBD. We then refer to this product as CBD oil.
CBD oil in Slovakia: Is the sale of CBD oil legal?
Slovak Parliament on Thursday 18.3. 2021 approved an amendment to the Law on Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Preparations , which implies the removal of CBD from the list of psychotropic substances in the country with effect from May 1, 2022. Until then, the Slovak Republic was the only Member State of the European Union that considered it a psychotropic substance. The substance CBD is also considered harmless by the Expert Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) and does not cause addiction, according to him. Whether CBD can be a component of food and be sold as a dietary supplement is you will find out in a separate article of our blog.
What is the difference between CBD and CBG oil?
What is the difference between CBD (Cannabidiol) and CBG (Cannabigerol)? Both CBD and CBG are both non-psychoactive compounds extracted from hemp. However, CBD oil is formed from the substance Cannabigerol (CBG is found in hemp flowers), the total amount of cannabinoids in the grown cannabis plant contains only about 1 percent cannabigerol.
Both of these substances respond to our body in the same way according to a 2018 study, but CBG has a different health effect on our body than CBD. Among the most important differences are their different molecular structure, different stimulation of appetite, and also that the substance Cannabigerol (CBG) can be a potential antibiotic. (4)
The study also mentions that Cannabigerol ( CBG) showed above-standard antibacterial potential. The research included a total of 18 different cannabinoids, of which Cannabigerol was the most effective. (5)
As part of our HempBona products , you can also find full spectrum CBD and CBG oil (10ml) containing a whole cocktail of cannabinoids from organically grown raw materials in Slovakia. In addition to CBD and other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, it also contains CBG, known as the “parent cannabinoid.”
CBD and CBG together form a strong immunity support team that helps fight inflammation, insomnia, mental and physical ailments, among other things.
According to a 2015 study , even the combination of these two substances (not just CBD or CBG itself, is a more effective alternative in relieving anxiety, depression and sadness. (6)
What is CBG and what are the fundamental differences between CBD and CBG oil, we discussed in a separate article of our blog.
Our natural CBD oil HempBona is not aromatized. MCT (coconut oil) is used as the base. It contains saturated fat, which not only allows the body to better process cannabinoids, but also has other health-promoting effects.
CBD versus THC: what’s the difference?
Many people mistakenly confuse hemp with marijuana, and yet we may miss its positive effects on our body, as well as its multifaceted use. Did you know that hemp data can produce up to 25,000 products? “We are primarily a family company and people who have a strong relationship with nature, quality production and Slovakia. In this way, we try to bring not only premium quality products, but also educate people. There are still many people who cannot distinguish marijuana from industrial hemp. The difference is mainly in the substance THC. In marijuana, the THC content is also 12% and above. In industrial hemp, the limit is up to 0.2%, says Peter Vodal, one of the members of hemp farm HempBona.
What effects does CBD oil have?
Cannabinoids work naturally with our system. This is due to the fact that in all mammals there are cannabinoid receptors in the body, which are part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This network of receptors helps regulate a number of physiological processes, including mood, memory, pain perception and appetite.
Based on the research that in the 90s. Years promoted by Israeli scientist Dr. Raphael Mechoulam (7) (who was also a pioneer in discovering THC as an active ingredient in marijuana in the 60s. and 70s. (8)), the endocannabinoid system has 3 components:
- Intrinsically manufactured endocannabinoids – called anandamide and 2-AG
- Receptors that receive their signals – CB1, located in the brain, lungs, liver, kidneys and central nervous system, and CB2 receptors, which are found in the immune system and affect, for example, inflammation and pain.
- Enzymes that create and recycle these endocannabinoids.
As knowledge of the functioning of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) continues to deepen, some medical researchers suggest a new diagnosis. Clinical deficiency of endocannabinoids, a condition where an individual produces lower amounts of cannabinoids than necessary to promote health, vitality and well-being.
CBD derived from hemp can increase the body’s ECS and act as a reboot for homeostasis or balance in our body by communicating with interconnected biological systems. The key lies in the right doses of CBD, adapted to the client’s needs.
The endocannabinoid system may begin to wear out with age, or as a result of an injury or illness, or an imbalance may arise in it. CBD stimulates this system and makes it more vital. This provides a number of potential benefits to users.
CBD oil and its effects: for problems with diabetes, epilepsy, cancer or anxiety
Hundreds of scientific studies are currently underway that look at CBD oil as a possible alternative in the treatment of many health problems such as
- parkinson’s disease,
- Cancer
- depression and anxiety
- eczema
- acne
- epilepsy
- diabetes
CBD effects have also proven themselves in the treatment of both epilepsy and diabetes , and as research shows, it also has good potential in addressing memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
CBD oil can improve sleep
Some studies have shown that CBD can have anti-inflammatory effects and relieve chronic pain. A lot of research also focuses on the effect that CBD has on high-quality sleep.
While it is true that there is scientific evidence that CBD can help with sleep, many studies in people investigating this association are small and/or lack a control group. Some patients who take CBD for chronic pain claim that it helps them sleep better. It is unclear whether these people sleep better as a result of pain treatment or because CBD has a direct effect on their sleep. Research shows that CBD has a calming effect on the nervous system.

How does CBD oil work?
CBD oil and other CBD products containing CBD have a number of amazing effects due to the fact that they directly affect the endocannabinoid system in the human body. It is a rather complex system that regulates the biological processes of the organism through its CB1 and CB2 receptors.
CB1 receptors are found mainly on nerve cells in the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system. They are also found in other organs and tissues, including immune cells, spleen, adrenal glands and pituitary glands, in the heart, lungs and cells of the reproductive, urinary and digestive tracts.
CB2 receptors are primarily found in immune cells, including leukocytes, spleen and tonsils.
We have cannabinoid receptors (CBD) throughout our body. Many tissues contain CB1 and CB2 receptors, each of which is associated with a different biological activity, thanks to which CBD oil has great therapeutic potential.

Why choose CBD oil from hemp grown in certified ORGANIC farming in Slovakia?
CBD made from organically grown hemp:
- does not contain toxins and synthetic chemicals
In order to be certified organic, a product must ensure that it has been grown or produced without the use of pesticides, synthetic fillers or genetically modified organisms.
- has a higher nutritional value
Chemical pesticides, fertilisers and other genetically modified substances can take away its natural nutrients from the soil. Hemp grown in organic conditions is therefore richer in vitamins and minerals, which also means that CBD oil extracted from an organic plant can expose you to a wider spectrum of cannabinoids. Studies have shown that organic consumables such as products, foods and medicinal tinctures have greater health benefits than those commonly grown and processed.
- has a cleaner ecological footprint
Chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are incredibly demanding on the environment. The irreversible effects of unnatural substances in agriculture can have an impact on air and water quality, as well as on damage to wildlife. Organic farming helps to support environmental sustainability efforts.
